Ideally, whether a student is taking algebra, American history, biology or any other class, the consortium program would strive to give students an academically free opportunity to explore the broader truths and meanings behind, beside, and beneath what they are learning. We believe that each academic subject emerges from the mind of the compassionate, generous, and living God described in the Bible. Although constantly a work in progress, each online course and online teacher endeavors to provide opportunities for students to think, grow, and process.
Oaks Christian's mission is: "To dedicate ourselves to Christ in the pursuit of academic excellence, artistic expression, and athletic distinction while growing in knowledge and wisdom through God's abundant grace." Oaks Christian has gained national acclaim for remarkable student achievements and is committed to excellence and to the growth and development of its students. In 2011, Oaks Christian School made the decision to bring their on-campus success to the online world and opened an online Christian high school.
The Online Christian Consortium faculty and staff are trained and developed by Oaks Christian Online School in Westlake Village, CA. Also, 87% of our gifted teachers have advanced degrees and all have an undergraduate degree in their teaching field and teaching experience in a Christian school, independent school or online school. Teachers attend an online training and have access to monthly professional development. They participate in regular reviews and can attend live training on the Oaks Christian campus. The online school maintains high quality teachers by offering a rewarding, online teaching environment that includes non-rolling admissions, support for synchronous teaching time, and an emphasis on academic integrity.
The consortium will addresses procedures that ensure student to student and student to teacher engagement, academic honesty and demonstrable student learning towards collegiate readiness and success. The consortium member schools will also benefit from sharing curriculum, best practices in accreditations and transcription, professional development and strategic visions of other online learning opportunities including blended, hybrid, distance learning and other fully-online options.
The founding partner school, Oaks Christian Online (OCO) school, is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) as well as by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). OCO also has all available University of California (UC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) approvals for its online courses. OCO as a sub-program of the Oaks Christian campus in Westlake Village, CA, also is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), the Western Association of College Admissions Counselors (WACAC), and of the National Association of Independent Schools.
Students will take courses directly from our member schools to be found below and may include students on those campuses, part-time students from non-member schools wishing to take a single course or full-time students wanting to enroll directly with a diploma-granting, partner school through a selective admissions process.
Students take online courses for a variety of reasons including schedule flexibility, travel, illness, sports, acting, music, accelerating and remediating.
Online Christian Consortium (OCC) schools share a common mission of preparing students for more than college entrance; these schools aim to prepare students for successful college graduation. As the founding partner school, Oaks Christian Online school (OCO) has enjoyed a 100% college admittance rate for its full-time, online students from all over the world since 2010.
Because the Online Christian Consortium (OCC) cares first and foremost about deep student learning, several program assumptions have been made that vary greatly from other online programs. OCC is also committed to transparency with its accrediting and certifying agencies and upholds higher than required standards in academic honesty, course participation and engagement, fixed terms and transcription of grades in order to blaze a trail of high-level learning online. We continue to create policies and practices that uphold a high percentage of student pass rate as well as measurable outcomes for student learning. OCC also regularly surveys – through individual, anonymous course questionnaires as well as end of year email surveys of students, parents and school personnel in order to continuously improve.
Curriculum used by the Online Christian Consortium was developed by Oaks Christian Online school. OCO uses 8 sets of standards (National, State, University of California, NCAA, International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL), Western Association for Schools and Colleges (WASC), Quality Matters, and alignment with its acclaimed main campus of Oaks Christian in Westlake, CA). The 54 courses that have been written by OCO also exceed any instructional objectives as addressed in Common Core standards. Subject Matter Experts for these courses come from around the world, and the online consortium is preparing to work with partner schools to develop additional courses for the OCC course marketplace in the 2016-2017 school year. The online curriculum is copyright protected.
