Pacifica-Orange County is a college-preparatory liberal arts and sciences high school which prepares students with a foundation for success in college, life, work and faith. Pacific-Orange County and the Online Christian Consortium’s other partner schools share similar core values and have the same mission - to provide an education that uplifts, transforms and inspires students around the world from all ethnic, economic and religious backgrounds.
In 2010, Oaks Christian School founded Oaks Christian Online (OCO) in an effort to offer students a flexible, fully online, Christian, college-preparatory education. Having developed an NCAA approved and UC approved curriculum, OCO’s high school program is one of the best in the country. As a recognized leader in online learning, OCO became the founding Partner School of the Online Christian Consortium (OCC). The Consortium provides a fully accredited online program to its member schools including curriculum and professional development opportunities, as well as best practices.
This agreement enables The First Academy to not only access the Online Christian Consortium’s marketplace of high-level, rigorous, online programs, the membership also makes it possible for schools to develop their own online courses, share curriculum, access best practices in accreditations and transcription, and collaborate in professional development education and strategic visions of new online learning opportunities. Classes are offered via an open-source learning management system Canvas by Instructure. The cloud-based software provides the platform for engaging, high quality online courses with meaningful interactions in an academic environment. The Online Christian Consortium also allows its partner schools to participate in a trust relationship with this learning management system that provides the unique ability for both schools to view the live course in their Canvas instance.
